Meet the Mentors

  • John Abraham
     John Abraham
    John is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Engineering. He got involved as the Treasurer of Asha (a South Asian coed acapella group), a member of the Stony Brook Robotics Team, IEEE, Sigma Beta Honor Society, and is a former mentee. He is working as a research assistant to Professor Liu in Power Electronics. As a 10 year old, he used to steer his uncle's car, while sitting on his lap.

    Ashritha Annam
    Ashritha is a senior at Stony Brook, majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in Biomechanics and Biomaterials. She got involved as the Secretary of BMES, was a research intern at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, and interned at the startup company IAMBIC. Tres leches is her favorite dessert.

    Riley Askenazi
    Riley is a sophomore at Stony Brook, double majoring in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and Creative Writing. They got involved as a Senator and now VP of Administration for RHA, the President and Founder of the Spoken Word Poetry Club, and is a former mentee. They are working on a book called “Grasslands”.

    Cailey Bobadilla
    Cailey is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Applied Mathematics and Statistics with a minor in Information Systems.. She got involved as a member of the PUSO Cultural Dance Team, a Lead Tutor for the ASTC, an AMS TA, the Social Activities Chair for WIB, a member of the University Scholars program, and is a former mentee. She was a Data Analyst Intern at FreedomCare. She has a different English and Chinese last name.

    Erin is a sophomore at Stony Brook, double majoring in Civil Engineering and Applied Mathematics and Statistics. She got involved as a member of ASCE, the Stony Brook Club Soccer Team, and is a former mentee. She loves listening to music and going to concerts.

    Logan is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Engineering. He got involved as a member of IEEE, the Stony Brook Robotics Team, and is a former mentee. He works at DoIT as a Student Technologist and once had to visit the ER because a glass door shattered on his hand.

    Sophia is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Biomedical Engineering on the pre-med track. She got involved as a member of the CASB Dance Team, BMES, the Bioengineering Education, Application and Research (BEAR) VIP Team, and is a former mentee. She loves going to waterparks, but still can’t swim.

    Kyle Han
    Kyle is a graduate student at Stony Brook, pursuing a Master of Science in Computer Engineering. He got involved as a member of the Stony Brook Robotics Team, TBP Engineering Honor Society, and as the Secretary of IEEE. He has interned at ITC Holdings, IA Engineering, TCE, and Zebra Technologies. He has been hit by a box truck on 3 separate occasions
  • Sarah Irfan
    Sara Irfan
    Sarah is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She got involved as a member of the WISE Honors Program, ASME, AIAA, and has attended various professional and social events on campus each semester. She was a Field Engineering Intern at PSEG this past summer. She has never tried soda or coffee, and as an avid water drinker, can chug a bottle in under a minute.

    Leah Landron
    Leah is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Chemical and Molecular Engineering with a specialization in Chemistry. She got involved as a member of AIChE, Guitar Club, Sandpiper Literary Magazine, Dynamic Dance, Pocket Theatre, French Club, and Art Club. She will be doing research with Professor Kim on fabric and dye chemistry and sustainability. She plays viola, ukulele, guitar, and is working on teaching herself piano.

    Rachel Leong
    Rachel is a graduate student at Stony Brook, pursuing a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. She got involved as the former President and Vice President of IEEE, the Event Coordinator for SWE, as a member of WiCS, TBP, the Stony Brook Robotics Team, and the Honors College. She interned at TCE and ITC Holdings, was a Co-Manager of the CSE Team at Sparks Within Reach in NYC, and is doing research on power electronics packaging in Professor Luo’s lab. She was in chorus in elementary, middle, high school, and her senior year of college.

    Eva is a sophomore at Stony Brook, double majoring in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics and Statistics, with a minor in Digital Arts. She got involved as a WiCS Event Committee member, on the Bioengineering Education, Application and Research (BEAR) VIP Team (XCode Team), and is a former mentee. She will be in the Future Ready Student program next year and loves everything matcha- especially strawberry matcha lattes.

    Kyle is a senior at Stony Brook, majoring in Chemical and Molecular Engineering with a specialization in Materials Science. He got involved as a member of AIChE and is a former mentee. He does research with Professor Mahajan for the Institute of Gas Innovation and Technology and interned at Kohler Instrument Company and Estee Lauder Companies Inc. He has a Chiweenie (cross between a Chihuahua and a Miniature Dachshund) who’s eyes glitter under the sun.

    Xiang Liu
    Xiang is a sophomore at Stony Brook, double majoring in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics and Statistics. He got involved as a RA, the Partnership Director for the Stony Brook Robotics Team, and doing research in Deep Learning at the  AI4Science Lab. He is an active member of CSTEP and is a former mentee. He plays the violin and likes to read biographies.

    Selena is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Information Systems. She got involved as a member of the Crochet Club and is a former mentee. She enjoys playing guitar, cooking, and taking walks in nature.

    Thomas is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. He got involved as a member of SBCS, the Albanian American Student Organization, and with intramural soccer. He interned at Commonwealth Bank and in the CEAS Undergraduate Student Office. In middle school, he won the Geography Bee.

    Franchesca is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Biomedical Engineering. She got involved as a member of BMES, the Badminton Club, and is a former mentee. She had a YouTube channel when she was six years old and still enjoys making and editing videos with family/friends.

    Stephanie is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. She got involved as a freshman committee member of WiCS, a member of the Bioengineering Education, Application and Research (BEAR) VIP Team, of SBCS, and is a former mentee. She used to have a huge scar under her eye, but it disappeared before needing surgery.

    Ciara is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Civil Engineering. She got involved as a former mentee. She interned at Bala Consulting Engineers, the NYC School of Construction Authority, and was a member of the ACE Mentor program and HE3AT program. She used to be a Girl Scout.

    Matthew is a senior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. He got involved as a member of Stony Brook Game Developers and is a former mentee. He was a Software Engineering intern at National Instruments and Broadridge the past 2 summers, respectively. He is a Hobbyist Game Developer and likes to collect souvenir pennies as well as currency from different countries.

    Diana is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Bioengineering. She got involved as a member of the Solar Racing Team, Bioengineering Education, Application and Research (BEAR) VIP Team, and is a former mentee. She was a SOAR Research Intern with Professor Sunar, Bloomberg Philanthropies Intern, and is an ArgoPrep Tutor. She has been on Kingda Ka (the tallest roller coaster in the US) 3 times in a row.

    Steven Shi
    Steven is a senior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Engineering. He got involved as the President of the Fujianese Club, the former Treasurer of IEEE, and member of SBRT, SASE, and Club Swimming. He does bioinformatics research with Professor Prasanna in the IMAGINE Lab, is a Lead Student Technician at DoIT and AI Fellow at Cornell Tech, and is a former mentee. He has interned at Kroger and MSKCC. Despite his focus on engineering, he enjoys learning about fine and performing arts, music, history, and language!

    Laaibah is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Technological Systems Management with a specialization in Information Systems and a minor in Film and Screen Studies. She got involved as a member of DSP Coed Professional Business Fraternity, a Cabinet Member of SASA, mentor in WiCS, and is a former mentee. She is a tutor at the Writing Center and played violin for 8 years!
  • Zachary Slade
    Zachary Slade
    Zachary is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Chemical and Molecular Engineering with a specialization in Materials Science and was accepted into the accelerated MBA program. He got involved as a University Scholars Fellow, a soloist/pianist in the Stony Brook Music Department, the Corresponding Secretary for TBP Engineering Honor Society, and is a former mentee. He loves hiking and mountain climbing and has climbed 32 of the 46 High Peaks in the Adirondacks and plans to complete all 46 within the next few years.

    Nikitha Somineni
    Nikitha is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Information Systems with a specialization in Business and Economics and a minor in Digital Arts. She got involved as a mentee in WiCS and the CEAS Peer Mentoring Program mentee. She participated in the IBM 2024 Accelerate Program: Design Track. She is a huge foodie and loves trying out new restaurants.

    Suk-Yin Tam
    Suk-Yin is a senior at Stony Brook, majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in Molecular and Cellular Biomedical Engineering on the pre-med track. She got involved as the Secretary of the American Medical Women's Association, a CHE 321/322 and BIO 204 TA, a member of Project Sunshine, and is a former mentee. She does research in the Shrestha lab for the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior. She is a NYS certified EMT.

    Lucas is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Civil Engineering. He got involved as the former Steel Bridge Project Manager for ASCE, the current President of ASCE, and is a former mentee. He interned at Forte Construction, GMSLLP, and does research in Autonomous Driving. He enjoys playing board games.

    Samuel Tselnik
    Sam is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. He got involved as an outreach representative for SBU Hidden Treasures, a rower and occasional coxswain for Stony Brook Crew, a member of the University Scholars program, and is a former mentee. He enjoys biking and taking photos, especially while in nature, but he lives in the city.

    Grace Wang
    Grace is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. She got involved as the freshmen representative for SBCS and the Social Media Manager for SBUHacks. She is a member of the Tech Business Development VIP team, did an REU at the University of Nevada, and is a former mentee. She has a lazy eye, and in kindergarten, wore an eye patch, resembling that of a pirate, to help strengthen her eye.

    Julianna is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She got involved as the PR Manager and Secretary of Stony Brook Motorsports, their VIP Team, and is a former mentee. She won prom queen twice!
  • William Wells
    William Wells
    William is a graduate student at Stony Brook, pursuing a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He got involved as the former Treasurer and Historian of AIAA, a member of PTS Mechanical Engineering Honor Society, the Bioengineering Education, Application and Research (BEAR) VIP Team, the Honors College, and is a former mentee. He interned at National Grid and is a huge Marvel and Star Wars fan.
  • Paris Yang
    Paris Yang
    Paris is a junior at Stony Brook, double majoring in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and Mathematics. She got involved with the Direct Reading Program in the MAT department, is a member of the WISE Honors Program, and is a former mentee. Last summer she was an HR Intern at ABI Health Care and participated in a Math REU at the University of Chicago. She likes to solve puzzles, go outdoors with friends in her free time, and can solve a Rubuk’s Cube.

    Marko is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Chemical and Molecular Engineering on the pre-med track with minors in Chemistry and Materials Science. He got involved with the Pre-Med Society, Music in Medicine, and the Linguistics Club. He is a former mentee, worked as a medical assistant in an endocrinologist’s office, and does polymer physics research with Professor Koga (CME). He can play 6 instruments.
