Fall 2026 & Spring 2027 Italian Language Classes

For more than 25 years, the Center for Italian Studies has been a trusted leader in Italian language education. No matter where you are in your language-learning journey, we have a class for you!

Interested in building your vocabulary and learning to communicate more effectively? Try one of our 26-week courses, which are designed to get you comfortable with speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Italian. With classes offered at 4 levels (Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced), there's a pathway that is right for you...with room to keep learning.

26-week Fall/Spring Program (begins the week of October 4)

    • Structure: 26 x 2-hour weekly sessions (52 hours of instruction)
      • Classes at 4 Levels: Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced
    • Duration: October 2026 through May 2027
    • Format: Online Synchronous (Zoom) with optional in-person conversazione (conversation) sessions

Italian for Travelers (8 weeks)

An introduction to the language for those with little or no knowledge of Italian. In addition to introducing basic grammatical concepts, this accelerated, culture- and travel-focused course is designed to provide students with practical Italian skills they can use while in Italy. It is centered around thematic units including restaurants, hotels, shopping, and transportation. Throughout the course, students will practice basic communicative skills, especially listening and speaking.

Beginner Italian (26 weeks)

An introduction to the language for those with little or no knowledge of Italian. The course introduces basic grammar concepts and topical vocabulary. Students will practice listening, reading, and writing in the language, and will practice simple dialogues with fellow classmates. Elements of Italian history and culture will also be presented.

Elementary Italian (26 weeks)

For students who have studied at least 1 year of the Italian language or have not studied for a while. This class will review basic grammar concepts and topical vocabulary. Students will practice listening, reading, and writing in the language and conduct simple dialogues with fellow classmates. Elements of Italian history and culture will also be presented.

Intermediate Italian (26 weeks)

For students with the equivalent of 2-3 years in Italian. This course offers a more formal approach and expands the Italian vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking of those students wishing to acquire new skills in the language. Grammar study includes a review of all basic verb tenses along with the introduction of the Passato Prossimo, Imperfetto, and Imperativo forms. The cultural aspects of the Italian language and people will also be explored in-depth.

  • Format: Online Synchronous (Zoom) with optional in-person conversazione (conversation) sessions

Advanced Italian (26 weeks)

For those with at least 4 years of Italian instruction. We will review and introduce all past, present, and future verb forms, topical vocabulary and cultural readings. Students will be called on to speak during each lesson, giving comments, opinions and reactions to cultural readings, along with participation in small group activities to strengthen conversational skills. Please note: Class will be conducted predominantly in Italian.

  • Meets: Saturdays, 10 AM–12 PM  
    • Dates: October 10, 24, 31; November 7, 14, 21; December 5, 12, 19; January 9, 16, 23, 30; February 6, 13, 27; March 6, 13, 20; April 10, 17, 24; May 1, 8, 15, 22
  • Format: Online Synchronous (Zoom) with optional in-person conversazione (conversation) sessions
