Campus Safety Update

October 13, 2023

Over the course of the last few days there have been several incidents occurring on or near university campuses related to current global events. As a result, many of us may be experiencing heightened anxiety and concern. However, rest assured, all of our teams are working around the clock to ensure your safety.

At this time, there are no credible threats related to our campuses, facilities or the greater Stony Brook University and Stony Brook Medicine communities. Additional measures have been implemented to ensure appropriate resources, including increased police presence and patrols. We will of course continue to monitor conditions and will adjust our plans accordingly.

As always, your ongoing safety, security and health remains our top priority.

Please continue to be aware of your surroundings and utilize campus resources like “SB Guardian” (our safety app). If you haven’t already, please check your SOLAR contact information and make sure you’re signed up for SB Alert, which is how we notify you in the event of an emergency.

Please also remember that we have additional resources in place for the community’s mental health and support, including:

    • Students: Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Center for Prevention and Outreach (CPO), the Student Support Team or student_supportteam@stonybrook.edu
    • Faculty/Staff: The Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Healthier U
    • Stony Brook Medicine employees: can access a list of services available to them on the homepage of ThePulse (which is only accessible by Stony Brook Medicine employees).
