Located in the heart of Manhattan, Stony Brook’s MFA in Television Writing is the most comprehensive program of its kind in the country.  Here you can build the TV Writing Portfolio that can launch your career. You will graduate with three Pilot scripts, a Spec and a fully produced webisode. 

In its tenth year, scripts from the TV Writing MFA have won multiple first prizes at The Austin Film Festival (two in 2025), The TV Academy Fellowship, the International Page Awards (and more) and our graduates are working in Writers Rooms in NY and Hollywood.

When you become a part of our MFA Programs in Television Writing or Film, you join a community of world-class television writers and filmmakers who gather together in a cutting edge/urban arts incubator.  Led by Program director Alan Kingsberg and legendary producer and Artistic Director Christine Vachon of Killer Films our mission is to train students in all forms of visual storytelling.
