Journalist in Residence

As part of the Colvin’s Center work in international journalism, tenacious overseas reporting is rewarded with a Journalist in Residence Fellowship program, bringing a foreign correspondent to the School of Journalism for a semester’s sabbatical.

The goal of the program is threefold:

  • To give a correspondent who has been working in conflict zones, a chance to step back, reflect, and work on a special project.
  • To give students and faculty the benefit of their reporting experience by being available to visit classes or speak on-on-one with journalism majors over the course of a semester, and
  • To present the annual Marie Colvin Distinguished Lecture

Inaugural Fellow: Lindsey Hilsum

Lindsey Hilsum, acclaimed foreign correspondent from Great Britain and author of the acclaimed In Extremis biography of Marie Colvin, was the Center’s Inaugural Fellow. During her time at Stony Brook she was able research her book, counsel students on the realities of being an international reporter, and delivered the 2016 Colvin Lecture.
