Responsibilities & Requirements

The Department of Civil Engineering at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Associate Professor level. This new hire will play a key role in the continued growth and development of Civil Engineering at Stony Brook University, especially in the areas of structural and/or geotechnical engineering. Desired research advancements include, but are not limited to, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, urban infrastructure sensing and advanced analytics, risk and multi hazard analysis and decision making, as well as bio-inspired geotechnics.



Responsibilities for the positions include developing an externally-funded research program, pursuing high impact scholarly research, developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising and guiding students, and engaging various constituencies. The ability to pursue interdisciplinary activities and attract sponsored research is essential. The successful candidate must have earned a doctorate in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and the ability to establish and sustain an externally funded research program. A professional engineer's license or the potential to obtain one is highly preferred.

Special Notes

This is a tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Application review will begin on February 1 and continue until the position is filled. Anticipated Start Date: September 2018.
