Required Qualifications

PhD and/or MD degree in a relevant field. Track record in MRI methodology. Track record independently funded research program. Track record in mentoring trainees. Majority salary support by extramural grand funding.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in MRI pulse sequence development. Experience in imaging research in cancer or neurological disorders (animals or humans). Excellent leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Stony Brook University pioneered researcher in areas of MRI (Dr. Paul Lauterbur, PhD, 2003 Nobel Laureate on the invention of MRI), positron emission tomography (PET) technologies, hyperpolarized MRI of the lung, CT colonoscopy for early colon cancer screening, and low-dose X-ray tomosynthesis, now with widespread clinical applications. Stony Brook University is also known for its research in physics (Dr. CN Yang, 1957 Nobel Laureate), mathematics, computer sciences, biomedical engineering, biomedical informatics, and neuroscience. School of Medicine Research Strategic Plan (2018-2022) will invest in: Cancer, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular health, Immunology/Infection, Biomedical Imaging, and Biomedical Informatics.



The Department of Radiology has 60 clinical faculty and 15 PhD faculty working on various imaging modalities with an emphasis on MRI and PET. Some of the human imaging resources include a 3T Siemens MR-PET, a 3 Tesla Siemens Prisma, a cyclotron, and radiochemistry laboratories for short-lived radiotracers, along with a supportive infrastructure for human studies. Some of the preclinical imaging resources include a Bruker 7.0 Tesla MRI with a PET insert, a Bruker 9.4 Tesla MRI with a PET insert, a Siemens Inveon PET/SPECT/CT, and an IVIS bioluminescence scanner, along with a supportive infrastructure for animal, behavioral and histological investigation. The Radiology Department is home to long-standing CAMPEP-accredited Medical Imaging Physics PhD and residency programs. Stony Brook University Health Science Center with 1330+ faculty is the only academic health science center on Long Island, which has a population of 3 million. Stony Brook University is located on Long Island, New York, 50 miles from NYC.

Special Notes

This is a tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
