Responsibilities & Requirements
The Stony Brook University Cancer Center seeks applicants for the inaugural director
of our Cancer Imaging and Metabolomics Program whose research focuses on cancer imaging.
This is a very important leadership position in the institution and in the Cancer
Center. The Program aims at developing cuting edge approaches in cancer imaging and
metabolism as well as cancer diagnostics and therapeutic. The program will be based
on exceptional research foundations and will also foster translating research activities
to clinical studies and advancing applications of advancing imaging for our cancer
patient population. Applicants must hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree and
meet the criteria for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure. Required
qualifications are national recognition in research with a history of strong independent
research programs and current externally funded grant awards. Teaching and clinical
tasks are negotiable. The successful candidate should also have a record of successful
mentorship and creating bridges between departments and disciplines. This position
will have access to a large array of research facilities, including a dedicated research
3T MR (Prisma), and a small animal 7T. The institution has committed significant resources
to PET imaging and candidates with PET experience are strongly preferred. We currently
have: a human MR/PET, small animal 9.4T MR/PET, PET/SPECT/CT, and GMP F[18] research
tracer production facility. Within a few months, we will have a second production
facility, cyclotron, and three additional camera bays with PET and PET/CT. Salary
startup funds, and laboratory space are highly competitive. We seek a recognized leader

Stony Brook is a large research intensive state supported university. We have a prestigious
medical school co-located with a science based university and hospital. Hence, we
have a strong history of basic and clinical science symbiosis. In particular we have
a 40 year record of innovation in imaging research. MR, FDG, technetium, and virtual
colonoscopy, as well as computer aided diagnosis were discovered by Stony Brook faculty.
Special Notes
This is a tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime
provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
