About Us

In February, Stony Brook University will honor the culture, history, and enduring contributions of the Pan-African community through educational and cultural programs reflecting the 2026 theme: A Century of Black History Commemorations.

This year’s theme invites the campus community to reflect on the origins, evolution, and impact of Black History Month, while celebrating the legacy, resilience, and achievements of African Americans and the global African diaspora across generations.

The Black History Month tradition is designed to increase awareness about the historical legacy of the African American/Black experience and its continued significance in the ongoing pursuit of equality, inclusion, social change, and social justice.

Please visit this website regularly for up-to-date program information.

Black History Month is coordinated by Diversity, Intercultural and Community Engagement, the Department of Africana Studies, and the Black History Month Committee.
