Rebecca Gabrielsen

Rebecca Gabrielsen is currently a biology student with a minor in health, medicine, and society with the intent of becoming a neurosurgeon one day. She has led a medical mission trip to Honduras through the Global Medical Missions Alliance (GMMA), contributing as an Event Coordinator. Her experiences include being  Vice President for the Undergraduate Biochemistry Society (SBU UBS) and Volunteers Around the World Global Health Alliances (VAW). In addition, she has engaged in research on pyrocystis fusiformis, Lumbricus terrestris, and biogel effects on azula plants under Dr. Sharon Pochron and recently presented her work to Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities (URECA).

Rebecca has experience with clinical research on the properties of Myeloid/Lymphoid Neoplasms with FGFR1 rearrangement with Dr. Carlos Tirado through the International Circle of Genetic Studies. She collected over 400 hours worth of medical scribing and worked as a technician for orthopedics ophthalmology. As a certified EMT, she shadows surgeons and anesthesiologists in the cardiothoracic ICU department at Stony Brook Hospital.

Beyond academics, she co-ran a 501(c)(3) foundation supporting orphans and children with special needs, volunteered with Project Sunshine and the Peace Corps Prep Program at SBU. In her free time, she has obtained a second degree white belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing, and performs music for the elderly. Rebecca is heavily involved in her church, volunteers her time to help children and attends multiple domestic and international medical missions throughout the year. Currently, Rebecca is in the process of  creating her own medical related club on campus and obtaining her medical assistant certification. She was also named on this year's Dean's List.
