Course Retakes

As part of the updated policy on course retakes, effective summer 2025, students will be able to retake a course regardless of the original grade, pending an available seat. This is to ensure consistency with how retakes have been handled in the past.

However, it is not always in a student’s best interest to retake a course they have already passed; doing so could potentially impact their financial aid, degree progress, and immigration status. Students should talk to their academic advisors and the Office of Financial Aid before making a decision.

As noted previously, only the highest grade earned will be calculated into the cumulative GPA, though grades for all attempts will be listed on the transcript.

Students will still need to wait for the retake date, and will still need to request approval from the academic department for three or more retakes.

Please be aware that students who are applying for admission into a health-related graduate or professional program will likely have their GPA recalculated by that program to include all graded attempts.
