Basic needs refer to the most foundational resources required to thrive as a Seawolf, including sustainable access to food, stable housing, and financial health. The Student Support Team can connect students directly with resources, listen to your story, and provide stigma-free support. 

Food Security

Facing food insecurity? We encourage you to reach out to the Student Support Team. Supporting students facing food insecurity is a priority for student success. We are here to connect you directly with resources and work together to create a plan for ongoing and sustainable food sources.

Stable Housing

Experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness can have a profound impact on a students’ mental and physical health, ability to focus on academics, and sense of belonging on campus. The Student Support Team is available to listen to your story, provide support, and connect you with possible resources.

If you are facing housing insecurity or homelessness, we encourage you to reach out to the Student Support Team. We will discuss possible options on-campus or in the community, specific to your individual circumstances.

Financial Needs

We understand as a Seawolf, you may face financial hardship during your time as a student at Stony Brook. Students are encouraged to explore on-campus employment opportunities, scholarships and aid, and other emergency funds.

Career Closet

The Career Closet, hosted by the Center for Service Learning and Community Service, allows students to acquire free professional clothing and accessories they may otherwise not be able to access. Students can shop the closet to select one professional outfit to keep per semester.
