This is the SoCJ's overseas reporting opportunity. During the weeks-long program, students travel with faculty to experience and report on life in different cultures around the globe.

The trip takes place during summer or winter break, and requires students to take a 3-credit on-campus course to learn about the country they'll be traveling to and to begin to lay the groundwork for finding and reporting stories.

The program is offered in partnership with the Stony Brook Study Abroad Office.

Scholarships are available.

Overseas reporting for recent graduates

This voluntary program is the result of a growing partnership between the SoCJ's Colvin Center and the IREX Community Solutions program, an international fellowship program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.

In summer 2023, Professor Sarah Baxter, Colvin Center director, took two recent graduates to Moldova to report on Moldovan culture and the impact of the war in Ukraine. They also visited with Ecaterina Miscisina and Moldovan journalists.
